A realistic place to learn independent living.
The Independent Living Program provides a realistic living atmosphere for teens developing necessary life skills. Keeping Kids Safe Ohio offers shared living arrangements in two supervised homes—one for boys and one for girls—with an onsite house parent.
KKS accepts youth of any race, color, national origin, or sex from ages 14–19. Participants are expected to continue their education, be employed or actively seeking employment, and work toward mastering essential life skills.
Why it’s important
Many young people are not provided with the opportunities to learn the skills they need once they emancipate from foster care. Hands-on practice helps them understand what living independently fully entails and reduces the risk of homelessness caused by lack of preparation.
